Our Top 4 Cold-Weather Cosmetic Treatments

Cold weather treatments for healthy, happy skin

Cosmetic procedures may not be on your mind when you’re outside bundled head-to-toe or cocooning at home, but actually, winter is a great time for skin rejuvenation as an extra boost to combat the effects of harsh weather. Medical spa treatments at our Hingham location that are most popular at this time of year include chemical peels, light-based skin renewal, and microneedling.

Even though many cosmetic procedures can be done during the summer months, it’s best to undergo laser treatments and other skin rejuvenation procedures during the winter, when you spend more time indoors. After a treatment, you should avoid sun exposure because of increased skin sensitivity and the risk of discoloration in the treatment area.

With that in mind, here are 4 of our favorite cold-weather med spa treatments:

Forever Young BBL™: This treatment delivers light energy that penetrates both the skin’s outer and deeper layers and treats a range of conditions, including age spots, freckles, redness, small vessels, and more. It’s also great for laser hair reduction and to control active acne. There’s no downtime associated with the treatment, but appropriate skin care includes daily application of a physical sunblock to prevent complications such as hyperpigmentation after a Forever Young BBL treatment.

Chemical Peels: Chemical peels are used to treat wrinkles, skin discoloration and scars—typically on the face. They work by removing the skin’s outer layers and can be customized based on the amount of damage to the skin and the patient’s goals. These are ideal for winter months because it’s important to consistently use sunscreen at least four weeks before the procedure to help prevent irregular pigmentation in treated areas. Avoiding sun exposure following the treatment is also necessary.

Ultherapy®: One of the most skin tightening treatments we offer, Ultherapy uses ultrasonic energy to heat the tissue and trigger the production of new collagen. It’s great for a number of areas, including the jowls and neck. But you’ll want to be careful about sun exposure for at least 2 weeks after the treatment. Combining Ultherapy with Forever Young BBL treatments is a great wintertime skin rejuvenation procedure.

Microneedling: Speaking of popular treatments, microneedling is a favorite of just about everyone. The hype is legitimate for this procedure, which is sometimes called collagen-induction therapy (CIT). The treatment involves using tiny needles to create microchannels in the skin. These tiny channels prompt the skin to produce collagen and elastin and help the skin more efficiently absorb serums and other skin rejuvenation creams. It’s important to avoid sun exposure for at least 24 hours before the procedure, and it’s critical to stay out of the sun for at least 3 days after the treatment.
