Advanced Techniques & Options
In addition to offering numerous medical spa procedures and skin care services, Dr. Guenther uses modern surgical techniques to achieve predictable, natural and long-lasting results.
Neck Lift
Dr. Guenther routinely combines neck lift with facelift. He will occasionally use liposuction during neck lift procedures, or simply perform liposuction in conjunction with face procedures. He also performs neck lifts for post-weight-loss patients. For a neck lift, incisions are made around the ears, much like a facelift, and are well hidden. If the patient has prominent neck bands, he will make a small additional incision underneath the chin in order to correct them. In some cases, liposuction alone is used to correct fullness under the chin.
Dr. Guenther does not perform "mini" or "string" neck lifts or use injectables to correct neck bands, as he does not believe these variations deliver the quality or duration of results his patients seek.
Facial Implants
Dr. Guenther offers cheek and chin implants, although chin implants are more common. Improving the definition of facial angles even slightly can improve the profile and overall balance of the facial features. In some cases, he can combine a chin implant with rhinoplasty to achieve that overall balance. He also performs osseous genioplasty (chin reshaping) by altering the underlying bone if the patient is a candidate for this type of surgery and does not wish to have an implant.
Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)
When performing otoplasty, Dr. Guenther hides the incisions behind the ear so the scars are not visible. He takes extra care to avoid the unnatural "pinned back" appearance. He typically performs this surgery on children who are old enough to handle the physical and emotional aspects of the procedure.
Dr. Guenther is the only provider in the Boston area who offers EarWells™ – a highly specialized device that can correct infant outer ear deformities without surgery; he trained in Dallas with EarWells designer Dr. Steve Byrd.
Healing & Enjoying Your New Look
Neck Lift
Dr. Guenther performs neck lifts in the operating room, and recovery depends upon whether neck lift takes place alone or in combination with a facelift. Necklift patients may be able to go home the same day, while patients of combined procedures are typically retained overnight in a recovery area to facilitate comfort and care.
For the first few days, post-op patients should have a friend or family member available at home to assist so the focus remains on the patient's recovery. Patients are seen in the office at day 5 to 7 for suture removal, and again at 2 weeks, at which point they are typically able to go out in public without drawing attention. They are also cleared to begin mild lower-body exercise at this time. At 6 weeks, patients are allowed to participate in full athletics.
Facial Implants
These procedures are performed as day surgeries. As with neck lifts, patients should have a friend or family member assist with recovery; follow-up appointments also take place at 5 to 7 days and at 2 weeks, after which the patient can generally go out in public comfortably.
Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)
Dr. Guenther performs otoplasty as a day surgery. After their procedure, patients typically wear a headband for the first few days.
