Say Goodbye to the Cookie-Cutter Nose Job

There’s a bit of irony when it comes to the results of the modern nose job. That’s because these days some patients want to add a bit of character to their noses. These rhinoplasty patients at my Boston-area practice aren’t always self-conscious about the size or shape of their noses, but they do want their noses to communicate some individuality.

That’s why I customize my approach for each rhinoplasty procedure. I focus on creating a nose that’s both in harmony with the rest of the patient’s facial features and takes into account the patient’s unique concerns. A cookie-cutter, 1-size-fits-all approach may get a satisfactory outcome in a generic sense, but it won’t necessarily produce the best result for a specific patient.

Some patients are even seeking to revise earlier rhinoplasty procedures that they believe made their noses look too perfect and want surgery to change their look. Usually these patients want subtle changes, such as a small bump, which will still look naturally attractive.

Perfectly straight, symmetrical noses that were once considered the ideal are now seen as boring by an increasing number of women and men. Of course, patients with significant imperfections that make them feel self-conscious want more attractive noses. But they may now ask that I don’t make it too “perfect.”

Revision Rhinoplasty

Because rhinoplasty is 1 of the most complex plastic surgery procedures, it’s not unusual for patients to come to my practice after getting disappointing results from a surgeon who may not have had the experience needed to perform a nose job. In some cases, however, the patients just want a little character added to their noses. Revision surgery can be a bit trickier because cartilage removed in the first surgery needs to be replaced with cartilage from the ear or rib. Scar tissue can also complicate the procedure.

Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty

Another option for men and women who want to add some character to their noses is using fillers as part of a “liquid” nose job. This approach includes a couple of benefits. First, the changes can be made with extreme precision based on where we make the injections. Second, the changes are temporary because the body ultimately absorbs fillers. Finally, if a patient is unhappy with the outcome, the treatment can be immediately reversed.

At our 3 Coastal Plastic Surgery practice locations, I can answer your rhinoplasty questions and recommend the best approach to create the unique nose you desire.
