Even among those who exercise, eat right, and take pride in leading a healthy lifestyle, a few noticeable bulges of stubborn fat often remain. CoolSculpting treatments are an ideal solution. A non-surgical alternative to liposuction, the CoolSculpting procedure is available near Boston at our South Shore practice and is one of our most popular fat-reducing procedures.

CoolSculpting treatments can target specific areas with an FDA-cleared body contouring process called Cryolipolysis®. At our Boston-area facility, patients can schedule the no-downtime procedure as a lunchtime appointment and return to work the same day. The treatments can reduce fat in these common trouble spots:
- Flanks (love handles)
- Back (upper and lower)
- Inner and outer thighs
Although CoolSculpting treatments reduce fat, they are not designed for people who want to lose a significant amount of weight. Rather, good candidates are in good overall health and want to tone and sculpt specific areas of their bodies where they can't seem to lose stubborn fat.
Advanced Techniques & Options
A pair of Harvard University scientists developed the CoolSculpting technique based on the concept of Cryolipolysis, which uses cold temperatures to freeze fat cells. CoolSculpting treatments safely kill fat tissue because it freezes at higher temperatures that don't harm skin or other cells. The procedure itself involves little discomfort for most patients, who usually liken it to the cold and numbing sensation of using an icepack.
Treatments are designed for your individual needs, and the sessions vary in time depending on the extent of areas you want to treat. Patients often read, use mobile devices, or even nap during the treatment. You may feel tugging, pinching, or numbness when fatty areas are pulled via suction between the CoolSculpting applicator panels.
Although CoolSculpting treatments can reduce fat by as much as 20% to 25% in one area, patients who want more extensive reduction may be better suited for surgical treatment. During your consultation with Dr. Guenther, you can discuss whether liposuction is a more appropriate treatment path.
Healing & Enjoying Your New Look
Because CoolSculpting is a completely non-surgical treatment, most patients return to their daily activities immediately afterward. Redness, swelling, bruising and some temporary numbness are typical side effects that fade soon after the procedure.
Although you may notice some slimming as early as 3 weeks after the treatment, the results will become more dramatic after 2 months. Fat cells are naturally absorbed and flushed out from your body's system during the ensuing 4 to 6 months. Destroyed fat cells are gone for good, but remaining fat cells can still expand. A healthy lifestyle that includes exercise and good nutrition will help you enjoy your toned physique for years to come.
