4 Signs You’re Ready for a Rhinoplasty

When I meet with potential rhinoplasty (or “nose job”) patients at my Boston plastic surgery practice, most of them are already fairly certain surgery is the right choice for them. For others, however, the choice isn’t as clear. Many men and women who don’t love their noses struggle to decide if plastic surgery would be worth the physical and financial costs.

If this sounds like you, here are a few signs to look for that indicate rhinoplasty may be the right choice for you.

1. You only take photos from certain angles.

Strategically positioning yourself in photos to disguise bumps, humps, or asymmetry is a pretty good indication you’re ready for rhinoplasty. You may angle your face downward, turn a certain direction, or avoid taking photos of your profile at all costs. When someone pulls out the camera, the first thing you think of isn’t smiling—it’s disguising your nose. One major benefit of rhinoplasty? It helps you look your best from every angle.

2. You strategically contour your nose with makeup.

Using makeup to create the illusion of a more proportional nose is a normal part of your daily routine. You’ve watched YouTube tutorials, purchased products, and dedicated time in front of a mirror perfecting your technique. These approaches are mainly designed to create the appearance of a narrow nasal bridge—something rhinoplasty can achieve on a much longer-lasting basis.

3. Your nose is the first thing you notice when you look in the mirror.

We all tend to zone in on our insecurities. However, if your nose quickly pops out to you when you catch your reflection, it may be a sign that your facial features aren’t in harmony with each other. Rhinoplasty is designed to enhance your unique features by making them appear more balanced and proportional, which helps draw attention to your eyes and smile.

4. You feel as though your nose is holding you back.

While rhinoplasty isn’t the right choice for everyone, it can be life-changing for people who struggle daily with nose-related insecurities. If you believe surgically addressing your nose would help you live a more confident and carefree life, that’s a strong sign that plastic surgery may be the right step.
